Luminal Collapse (2025)

100cm x 30cm

Luminal Collapse is a meditation on the moment where light ceases to define and instead begins to dissolve. In this expansive abstract landscape, earthy ochres and stormy blues collide and coalesce, capturing a fleeting, volatile threshold—a space where atmosphere unravels and the horizon becomes memory.

Painted with broad, gestural sweeps and layered translucent glazes, the piece was built up slowly over time. Areas of light were pulled forward with dry-brushing and delicate scumbling, while deeper tones were flooded in with thinned acrylic washes, allowing them to bleed and blur like thought in motion. The central burst—almost volcanic in nature—was created using a palette knife and impasto medium, scraped back and rebuilt in stages, giving it both depth and fragility.

The result is something both vast and intimate: a landscape not of place, but of sensation. "Luminal Collapse" asks the viewer to sit with ambiguity—to feel the pull between clarity and disintegration, between what’s just beginning and what’s already ending.
